Frequently asked questions

These answers cover how we work, what to prepare and how projects are organised. If your question is not here, the contact page is the quickest route.

  1. What kinds of studios do you work with?

We advise broadcasters, production companies and venues that produce television news and live shows. Studios range from a single-camera news set to a multi-camera gallery. If you are building live television capability in a space that has not hosted it before, we can help you plan from the start.

  2. Can you work with the equipment we already own?

Yes. Many reviews begin with what is already in the building. We check what you have, how it is connected and where it limits the crew, then advise what to keep, adjust or replace. We do not assume new purchases are needed.

  3. How does a workflow review work?

We observe your gallery, read your rundown and watch how the crew communicates. You then receive a written review with practical changes, ordered so you can introduce them gradually. We can talk it through with the team afterwards if that helps.

  4. Do you train our camera operators on site?

Camera operation coaching is hands-on and usually takes place in your own studio, using your cameras and set. Sessions cover framing, pedestal moves, teleprompter work and live shot calling, and are tuned to the experience of the operators in the room.

  5. What should we prepare before a first conversation?

A short description of the studio, the type of programme and the size of the crew is enough. Photographs of the floor and gallery, a current rundown and a list of main equipment are helpful if you have them, but none of it is required.

  6. Can you help with lighting on a limited power supply?

Lighting plans are designed around the power you have and the time your crew can spend rigging. We balance the look of the set against those limits, and we show your team how to maintain the rig afterwards.

  7. How do I ask for a quotation?

Use the contact form with a few lines about your studio and what you need. We reply with questions if anything is unclear, then send a written quotation. The prices page explains what is included and how payment works.

  8. Where are you based and do you travel?

We are based at 14 Pottergate Yard, Norwich, and visit studios and venues to see the work first-hand. Travel needs are discussed when you enquire so that the quotation reflects them.

Good to know

Getting the most from a first conversation

Most enquiries start with a question that sounds simple, such as why the sound is muddy or why the gallery feels chaotic. Those symptoms usually have several causes across equipment, layout and habits, so we begin by listening to how a normal broadcast day runs.

You do not need technical drawings to contact us. A plain account of the studio, who works in it and what goes wrong is a good starting point, and we will ask for anything further when it becomes useful.

If several services seem relevant, we suggest an order of work. Often a workflow review comes first, because it shows whether the main problem lies in equipment, lighting, sound or the way the crew communicates.

Where we recommend changes, we say which are quick and which need planning around transmission. A studio with a live schedule cannot stop for a fortnight, and our advice reflects that.

After any visit you receive written notes in plain language. They are written so that a technician or a new crew member can act on them without us in the room.
